Covid: Which countries have banned UK flights?
More than 40 countries have suspended routes to the UK because of the rapid spread of a new variant of Covid.
It had already been pretty difficult to travel abroad - because of quarantine rules either at your destination or when returning to the UK.
Which countries have closed their borders?
There is a lot of concern about the new Covid variant, which
appears to spread more rapidly than earlier versions of the
virus.
These are some of the countries which have acted:
- France suspended all travel links, including freight lorries, with the UK for 48 hours from midnight (23:00 GMT) on Sunday 20 December
- Only those who are resident in Belgium will be able to enter from the UK from 23 December
- Canada stopped the entry of all passenger flights from the UK for 72 hours, from midnight on Sunday (Monday 05:00 GMT)
- India has suspended flights from the UK until 31 December
- Ireland banned flights arriving from England, Wales and Scotland for at least 48 hours from midnight on Sunday
- Russia has stopped flights from the UK for one week
- Hong Kong From 22 December, travellers who have been in the the UK for more than two hours within the past 14 days will be denied entry to Hong Kong
This is not a complete list of countries, as so many have taken measures.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updates on the latest advice for UK travellers to other countries.
European Union ambassadors are meeting to try to co-ordinate their policies on travel links to the UK. They will consider a recommendation to lift restrictions.
But EU member states are free to set their own rules on border controls, and may adopt their own approach.
