DataMapper support

Reported by Brian Lopez | June 22nd, 2009 @ 04:14 PM

Hey Ben,
Was just wondering if you'd ever taken a look at or used DataMapper, if Authlogic would already work with it, or if you'd be interested in providing support for it?

I've been a long time ActiveRecord user and only just recently started looking at DataMapper to try and solve some problems that would have normally required pretty dirty hacks with ActiveRecord. I'm extremely impressed with the DataMapper API so far, and my next step is to see if I can port over our authentication system to it (currently using Authlogic and ActiveRecord).

Authlogic is by far the cleanest authentication solution I've found so far, so I'd love to continue using it if at all possible. I'm thinking of a mixin, something along the lines of the DataMapper mixin convention like: is_authentic

Any interest in this? Need any help?

Also this is in a Rails app still, just so you know.

Hey Brian, I'd love to do that. In fact, check this out: http://pastie.org/503478. Thats a pastie I found, maybe not the best way to integrate it, but its interesting none the less. I don't think integration into data mapper would be difficult, the code and the logic are essentially the same, its the api that's different. Right now I just don't have time to do this, test it, etc. If you want to fork the project and give it a shot that would be awesome.

You could extract the common code into a share module, anything specific would go into it's ORM adapter.

Object based authentication solution that handles all of the non sense for you. It's as easy as ActiveRecord is with a database.
